Enriching Food For Happy Chickens

Our selection of chicken food covers all stages—from starter crumb for chicks to grower pellets and layer mash for older hens. Each blend is chosen for its nutritional balance and life in the UK, helping your birds stay in top condition throughout the changeable seasons. We also offer mixed corn for variety and grains for natural foraging.

Organic For A Healthier Gut

Just like humans, your chickens will benefit from organic feed. Free from artificial additives, an important factor when raising hens who lay beautiful eggs. Organic feed and treats support better gut health, natural behaviour, ensures you have a full farm to table egg production in your own back garden. Waitrose would even struggle to match that!

The Importance of Grit

Chickens have poor digestion. They need grit to digest food, as it helps break down grain in the gizzard. We choose to offer oyster shell, which is high in calcium and vital for laying hens because it's a natural way to help produce strong eggshells and supports long-term health. Offering both grit and oyster shell ensures your flock gets what it needs lay perfect and nutritious eggs.

Can I Replace Feed With Chicken Treats?

Sadly not. As tasty as treats are, just like human snacks, they should only make up a small part of your flocks diet. A complete chicken feed ensures they get all the protein, vitamins, and minerals they need. You can use treats such as pecking blocks to keep your chickens stimulated and happier with variety.

How Often Should I Feed My Chickens A Pecking Block?

Pecking blocks are a great boredom buster and can be left in the run for hens to use as needed. One block can last several days depending on flock size. Offer them only occasionally, we recommend for a flock of 6-10 hens, once a week is ideal to provide enrichment without replacing their core chicken feed.

Are Fresh Nest Herbs Essential For Bedding?

We always recommend that your chickens live in a peaceful environment. Whilst not essential part of hygiene, fresh nest herbs can help. Fresh herbs in nest boxes can deter mites and reduce odours, leading to less need for chicken cleaning products. They also create a calming environment for laying hens. Many keepers use them alongside fresh bedding for added comfort and hygiene.

When To Use Mixed Grit

Start offering mixed grit once your chickens begin eating whole grains or are moved off crumb feed. This can happen from around 8 weeks. It supports digestion and, if it includes oyster shell, helps laying hens with eggshell strength. We offer mixed grit and oyster shells so you can customise the serve for your own flock.

How Often Should I Clean My Feeders?

Keeping on top of sanitation, especially during warmer months in the UK where bacteria can spread easily, is incredibly important. A routine for cleaning your hen house and in particular, feeders, drinkers and treat bowls should be done at least once a week. There's no harm in more than once a week, but in rainy British wet conditions you may need to sanitise more to reduce mould..
