Metal Chicken Runs

Give your chickens, ducks, or rabbits the space they need with our full range of metal chicken runs. Available in two sturdy options—25mm and 38mm galvanised metal tubing—each run offers a safe, enclosed outdoor area at a cost-effective price. These large chicken runs are perfect for adding secure space to your existing hen house, duck house, or hutch. Whether you're housing a few hens or a growing flock, our runs provide protection, room to roam, and peace of mind. IMPORTANT - In windy conditions we recommend removing the covers to protect the run structure and covers from damage.

Walk-in Wire Runs

All of our walk in chicken runs come as complete kits, ready for home assembly. The frames simply slot together, and the wire mesh is supplied on a roll for you to cut and attach using the included instructions. Both 25mm and 38mm frame versions are finished with dark green-coated mesh to blend into your garden.

Every run includes:

  • Pegs to secure it to the ground
  • A partial roof cover for shade and weather protection
  • Extension options for creating a large hen run
  • Optional extra covers available

For exposed areas or high winds, we recommend adding heavy-duty anchors for extra stability.

What is the difference between the 25mm and 38mm frame runs?

The 38mm frame runs are heavier and more robust, making them the better choice for larger flocks, exposed gardens or areas with higher predator pressure. They stand 2.2m tall.

The 25mm frame runs are lighter, stand 2m tall, and suit smaller or more sheltered setups. Both use galvanised metal with green-coated mesh. In windy spots, the 38mm frame gives better stability.

How long does a metal run take to put together?

The frame bolts or slots together without specialist tools, and most customers have it up within a day. Attaching the wire mesh takes a little longer as it comes on a roll and needs to be cut to size and fixed in place. Having a second pair of hands makes both jobs noticeably easier.

Are the runs fox-proof?

Our metal runs use galvanised steel with a 20mm mesh aperture, which deters foxes effectively. For extra peace of mind, we recommend securing the base with pegs or stakes and, in areas with persistent fox pressure, burying a wire skirt around the edges. Run covers can also be added to prevent aerial predators getting in from above.

Do the runs come with a floor?

No. Our metal runs are designed without a floor so your hens can access natural ground, which is better for their wellbeing. It does mean predators can potentially dig underneath, so we recommend pegging the run down securely or using heavy-duty anchors in exposed areas. A buried wire skirt around the perimeter gives the best long-term protection.

Can I attach a metal run to my existing hen house?

Yes. Our metal runs work as freestanding enclosures or can be positioned against an existing coop to create an extended outdoor area, connecting to the hen house via the pop-hole. If you are not sure which size or configuration will work with your existing setup, get in touch, and we will help you work it out.

Can I extend the run later if my flock grows?

Yes. Extension kits are available to add 2 metres of length to any of our 3m wide runs. If you think you might want to expand in future, it is worth bearing that in mind when choosing your initial size, as starting with a 3m wide run gives you that option further down the line.
