Nestera Recycled Plastic Chicken Houses
Developed in the UK over two decades, Nestera recycled plastic chicken coops have been designed for the well-being and comfort of your flock and to guarantee easy cleaning and unparalleled durability.
Each of our three styles of coop are available in three sizes to accommodate between 2-15 hens, with the Wagon designed for up to 8 large hens or 15 bantams. Each Small coop is equipped with one perch and one nesting box, with two perches and two nesting boxes in the medium and large chicken coops. The Wagon features 3 perches and two nesting boxes.
Our Raised coops are elevated 450mm off the ground, making them even easier to clean and collect your eggs. This additional space also allows your hens to take shelter from bad weather under the hen house.
What is the difference between the Ground, Lodge, Raised and Wagon?
The Ground and Lodge are floor-level coops with similar dimensions but slightly different designs. The Raised is lifted 450mm off the ground, making cleaning and egg collection easier and giving your hens a dry spot to shelter underneath.
The Wagon is a larger, differently shaped model designed for up to 8 large hens or 15 bantams. All styles are available in small, medium and large.
Does the coop come with a run included?
Nestera coops are sold as houses only. You will need to pair yours with a separate run, either from the Nestera range or any compatible third-party run. This gives you the flexibility to choose the run size that best suits your garden and flock. If you are not sure what to pair with your chosen coop, get in touch and we will help.
How do I clean a Nestera coop?
Move your hens outside and remove the bedding. The smooth plastic surface hoses down quickly with no scrubbing needed. For a deeper clean, apply a poultry-safe disinfectant, rinse thoroughly and leave to dry before rebedding. Without the rough joints and grain of a wooden coop, the whole process takes noticeably less time.
Are Nestera coops warm enough for UK winters?
Yes. The 9mm recycled plastic walls provide better insulation than thin timber. There are no gaps or poorly sealed joints for draughts to get through, and all models have built-in ventilation to keep air fresh without letting the cold in. Nestera coops are designed for year-round use in UK conditions.
What does the 25-year guarantee cover?
The guarantee covers the plastic shell against cracking, warping and UV degradation for 25 years. It does not cover accessories or mesh runs. This reflects the quality of the material: 9mm recycled plastic is significantly more durable than thin timber used in most wooden coops at a similar price.
Can I fit an automatic door opener to a Nestera coop?
Yes. Nestera coops are compatible with automatic pop hole door openers. Check the pop hole dimensions on your chosen model against the opener specifications before ordering to confirm they are compatible. You will find our full range of door openers in the Pop Hole Openers section.
Does the Nestera range include anything for ducks?
Yes. Nestera also make a duck house, designed for up to 8 small ducks or 2 large geese. It has the same easy-clean plastic construction and 25-year guarantee as the chicken houses and is listed in this collection alongside the hen coops.
